About the position

The Instrument Systems Worker (HVAC) position within the Facilities-Repair and Maintenance department is crucial for ensuring the proper functioning of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems across the Institute's buildings and equipment. This role involves a variety of responsibilities, including inspecting and testing HVAC systems to ensure they operate efficiently. The worker will troubleshoot, repair, and install electronic temperature control systems and electronic circuitry, which are essential for maintaining comfortable and safe environments within the facilities. In addition to hands-on repair work, the Instrument Systems Worker will maintain, diagnose, and repair microprocessors and associated instrumentation related to building automation systems. This includes performing tests and adjustments of input and output devices, as well as setting up and maintaining history and documentation files for all work performed. The worker will also be responsible for receiving work order assignments, ordering necessary materials, and completing tasks with detailed written documentation provided on work orders. Daily time entry to the supervisor is also required to ensure accurate tracking of work hours and tasks completed. Scheduled preventative maintenance on building equipment is a key aspect of this role, along with maintaining a clean work area and ensuring tools and equipment are in good condition. The Instrument Systems Worker will also provide customers with updates on the progress of work, ensuring clear communication and customer satisfaction throughout the repair and maintenance process.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Five years of work experience in applicable trade/field or formal controls training in mechanical operations and maintenance.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • General understanding of the Institute's building automation systems.
  • Ability to read ladder diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Phoenix control valves.
  • Experience working in labs.
