About the position

The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer I or II will be responsible for maintaining the performance and efficiency of SCADA systems and data communication networks at water and wastewater facilities. This role involves providing operational support, leading design and implementation projects, and collaborating with the Instrumentation & Controls team to uphold industry standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day support for operations personnel to ensure process control systems meet operational requirements efficiently and reliably.
  • Lead the design, review, and implementation of process control systems.
  • Oversee and coordinate contractor installations of process control equipment.
  • Manage occasional contractor projects including scoping and bidding of work.
  • Identify and purchase equipment needed for ongoing process control system maintenance and improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with the Instrumentation & Controls team to develop and implement company standards and industry best practices in process control systems.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Engineering, Industrial Automation, Information Technology, or equivalent experience in lieu of degree required.
  • Capable of programming and configuring PLCs and HMIs with minimal assistance.
  • Requires intermediate computer knowledge including understanding of IP networking, SQL databases, Windows Server and Domain management, or use of command line applications such as Telnet.
  • Comfortable working on electrical systems including ability to read electrical schematics and use a multimeter and process meters.
  • 2+ years of experience with design, programming, commissioning, and maintenance of process control systems.
  • Cybersecurity knowledge including familiarity with firewalls and network segmentation concepts such as a DMZ is a plus.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and Wonderware HMIs preferred.
  • Some experience providing field support to internal or external customers preferred.
  • Experience with data communication networks such as Ethernet/IP or radio telemetry is a plus.
