About the position

The Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer at MPR Associates will provide technical expertise and leadership in control system engineering, project management, and client interface responsibilities. This role involves working on power plant controls and Industrial Control Systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory and cybersecurity requirements, and developing technical deliverables for clients. The position is based in either Virginia or Connecticut and is a full-time, exempt role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in control system engineering, design, implementation, programming/configuration, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Support and lead efforts to meet regulatory and cybersecurity requirements for projects.
  • Provide technical support for power generation and auxiliary power systems, particularly related to digital devices or systems.
  • Develop technical deliverables including engineering evaluations, operability evaluations, and conceptual design documents.
  • Provide technical direction and project management for I&C projects in various market sectors.
  • Conduct analysis and modeling for I&C systems, including simulator algorithm development.
  • Interface with clients to understand their challenges and develop technical proposals.
  • Identify industry opportunities for I&C services and partnerships.
  • Analyze and resolve system design weaknesses.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to employees.

Requirements

  • 4 year technical degree is required.
  • At least 5 years of directly related I&C experience in a project/systems engineering role.
  • Experience with Industrial Control Systems such as DCS and PLC systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronics theory.
  • Extensive knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks from NIST, FDA, FIPS and RMF processes.
  • Strong background in networking including Ethernet, TCP/IP, IPv4, IPv6.
  • Ability to create and interpret network diagrams.
  • Software programming experience, preferably in C/C++/C#.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree is a plus.
  • P.E. license is a plus.
  • Experience with design and operation of nuclear plant safety related and non-safety related I&C systems.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, and ISA standards.
  • Familiarity with different I&C vendor products.
