About the position

As an Instrumentation & Control Systems (I&CS) Design Engineer at Jacobs, you will be part of a dedicated team focused on providing innovative solutions to municipal clients facing water challenges both locally and globally. This role is based in our Northwest team located in Corvallis, Portland, or Boise, where you will have the opportunity to work on projects that are critical to the sustainability and management of water resources. In this role, you will collaborate with our world-class Instrumentation and Control Systems team, which is dedicated to protecting the most valuable asset in the world: water. You will engage in projects that encompass every aspect of design through to onsite startup work, leveraging the deepest technical resources in the industry. Your responsibilities will include leading the development of Process & Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), control narratives, specifications, network drawings, panel drawings, and instrument selection. You will also coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure a cohesive design approach. Additionally, you will play a vital role in mentoring and developing junior engineers, both domestically and globally. Your technical expertise will allow you to develop control system software in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), perform facility startups, and conduct commissioning activities. You will review construction submittals, conduct site evaluations, and make recommendations for control system upgrades while maintaining effective communication with clients and management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of Process & Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs).
  • Create control narratives, specifications, network drawings, and panel drawings.
  • Select appropriate instrumentation for projects.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines for cohesive design.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers both domestically and globally.
  • Develop control system software in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
  • Perform facility startups and commissioning activities.
  • Review construction submittals and conduct site evaluations.
  • Make recommendations for control system upgrades.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in I&C Systems Integration design.
  • Experience in Process & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development.
  • Experience in I/O list development and instrumentation selection.
  • Proficient in control panel layout and wiring, and detailed loop wiring diagrams.
  • Experience in PLC equipment list development.
  • Ability to mentor, train, and delegate work to others domestically and abroad.
  • Ability to work outside normal work hours to coordinate with global team members.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Water infrastructure Instrumentation & Controls Systems design experience.
  • Experience with PLCs and HMI programming software.
  • Experience with MCC and VFD control requirements.
