About the position

The Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer at MPR Associates will provide technical expertise and leadership in control system engineering, project management, and client interface responsibilities. This role involves working closely with clients to develop strategies and deliver technical solutions in various sectors, including power generation and federal services. The position is full-time and based in either Virginia or Connecticut, focusing on delivering safe and reliable technical solutions across the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in control system engineering, design, implementation, programming/configuration, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Support and lead efforts to meet regulatory and cybersecurity requirements for projects related to controls and control systems.
  • Provide technical support for power generation and auxiliary power systems, particularly related to digital devices or systems with communications interface to control systems.
  • Develop technical deliverables including engineering evaluations, operability evaluations, and conceptual design documents.
  • Provide technical direction and project management for I&C projects in various market sectors including nuclear and health sciences.
  • Analyze and model I&C systems, including the development of simulator algorithms.
  • Interface effectively with clients to understand their challenges and develop technical proposals.
  • Identify industry opportunities for I&C services and provide input for growth planning.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve system design weaknesses.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to employees.

Requirements

  • 4 year technical degree is required; advanced degree is a plus; P.E. license is a plus.
  • At least 5 years of directly related I&C experience in a project/systems engineering role.
  • Experience with Industrial Control Systems such as DCS and PLC systems, and associated control system devices.
  • Familiarity with NRC regulations related to digital systems and design of nuclear plant I&C systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronics theory, cybersecurity frameworks, and networking.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with pneumatic and analog I&C systems and design.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, and ISA standards.
  • Familiarity with different I&C vendor products including Emerson Ovation, GE, ABB, and others.
