About the position

As an Instrumentation & Control Systems (I&CS) Design Engineer at Jacobs, you will play a crucial role in transforming innovative ideas into practical solutions that address the water challenges faced by municipal clients both locally and globally. You will be part of our Northwest team located in Corvallis, Portland, or Boise, where you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that contribute to the sustainability and connectivity of our world. In this role, you will collaborate with a world-class team dedicated to protecting water, one of our planet's most valuable resources. Your responsibilities will encompass all aspects of project work, from initial design through to onsite startup activities. You will leverage your extensive technical expertise to lead the development of Process & Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), control narratives, specifications, network drawings, panel drawings, and instrument selection. Coordination with other engineering disciplines will be essential to ensure a cohesive design approach. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering growth both domestically and globally. Your technical skills will also be utilized in developing control system software for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), as well as performing facility startups and commissioning activities. You will review construction submittals, conduct site evaluations, and make recommendations for control system upgrades, all while maintaining effective communication with clients and management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of Process & Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs).
  • Create control narratives, specifications, network drawings, and panel drawings.
  • Select appropriate instrumentation for projects.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive design.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers domestically and globally.
  • Develop control system software in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
  • Perform facility startups and commissioning activities.
  • Review construction submittals and conduct site evaluations.
  • Make recommendations for control system upgrades.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in I&C Systems Integration design.
  • Experience in Process & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development.
  • Proficient in I/O list development and instrumentation selection.
  • Experience in control panel layout and wiring, and detailed loop wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to develop PLC equipment lists.
  • Strong mentoring, training, and delegation skills.
  • Ability to work outside normal hours to coordinate with global team members.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Water infrastructure Instrumentation & Controls Systems design experience.
  • Experience with PLCs and HMI programming software.
  • Experience with MCC and VFD control requirements.
