About the position

As an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring world-class reliability for plant instrumentation and control systems. This position involves providing technical leadership and support for process instrumentation across all installations. You will be responsible for developing preventive and predictive maintenance plans for the site's instrumentation and analyzer infrastructure. As a subject matter expert, you will troubleshoot instrumentation and analyzer issues, assist plant I/E technicians, and participate in the DCS team, including cross-training for callout rotations. This role is essential for maintaining the safety and efficiency of our operations, and you will report to the I&E Supervisor while working alongside a team of Instrumentation and Electrical Technicians, DCS Specialists, and Electrical Engineers. This is a safety-sensitive position that requires a commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example and coach safety practices, supporting plant safety initiatives.
  • Create training plans for I/E technician teams across all plant areas.
  • Develop preventive and predictive maintenance programs for instrumentation and analyzers using CMMS and process control network data.
  • Analyze and repair failed controls and instrumentation, assisting I/E technicians.
  • Implement basic and advanced control strategies to troubleshoot plant control issues.
  • Utilize DCS configuration tools and instrumentation knowledge to solve complex plant problems through communication with operations, plant engineers, and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/technology (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or Computer/Electronics Engineering preferred).
  • Three to five years of relevant experience.
  • At least five years of instrumentation/controls experience in a Refinery/Chemical environment.
  • Understanding of controls engineering fundamentals and control systems.
  • Skills in Industrial Instrumentation, including Industrial Analyzers, Distributed Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, and Safety Instrumented Systems.
  • Experience in DCS/PLC configuration, with familiarity with Yokogawa DCS and/or Allen Bradley PLC being advantageous.
