About the position

As an Instrumentation & Control Systems (I&CS) Design Engineer at Jacobs, you will play a crucial role in transforming innovative ideas into practical solutions that address the water challenges faced by our municipal clients both locally and globally. You will be part of our Northwest team located in Corvallis, Portland, or Boise, where you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that contribute to the sustainable management of water resources. In this position, you will collaborate with our world-class Instrumentation and Control Systems team, dedicated to protecting the most valuable asset in the world: water. Your responsibilities will encompass all aspects of project work, from initial design through to onsite startup activities. You will leverage your extensive technical resources and experience to lead the development of Process & Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), control narratives, specifications, network drawings, panel drawings, and instrument selection. Coordination with other engineering disciplines will be essential to ensure a cohesive design approach. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to mentor and develop junior engineers, both domestically and globally, fostering their growth within the field. Your role will also involve developing control system software for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), as well as performing facility startups and commissioning activities. You will review construction submittals, conduct site evaluations, and make recommendations for control system upgrades, all while maintaining effective communication with clients and management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of Process & Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs).
  • Create control narratives, specifications, network drawings, panel drawings, and instrument selection.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines for cohesive design.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers both domestically and globally.
  • Develop control system software in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
  • Perform facility startups and commissioning activities.
  • Review construction submittals and conduct site evaluations.
  • Make recommendations for control system upgrades.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in I&C Systems Integration design.
  • Experience in Process & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development.
  • Experience in I/O list development and instrumentation selection.
  • Proficient in control panel layout and wiring, and detailed loop wiring diagrams.
  • Experience in PLC equipment list development.
  • Ability to mentor, train, and delegate work to others domestically and abroad.
  • Ability to work outside normal work hours to coordinate with global team members.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Water infrastructure Instrumentation & Controls Systems design experience.
  • Experience with PLCs and HMI programming software.
  • Experience with MCC and VFD control requirements.
