About the position

The Instrumentation and Electrical Project Engineer position is a contract-to-hire opportunity with a specialty chemicals manufacturing client located in the South Houston area, just outside the Beltway. This role is crucial as it supports the Capital Expenditure (Capex) team across multiple sites in Houston and the Southeast USA. The successful candidate will report directly to the Capital Projects Manager and will be responsible for providing Instrumentation and Electrical Engineering expertise throughout the full life cycle of various projects. This includes creating construction packages and deliverables such as one-lines, loop diagrams, and motor schematics. The role requires a strong ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve Electrical and Instrumentation issues as they arise during project execution. The position demands approximately 40 percent travel, indicating that the engineer will need to visit different project sites to ensure effective project management and execution. The client is open to working with and training less experienced engineers, making this an excellent opportunity for those looking to grow their skills in a supportive environment. The work hours are set from 8 AM to 4 PM, providing a structured workday for the engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed and clear construction bid packages
  • Develop execution plans for design and construction
  • Generate material and labor quantities
  • Develop project instrumentation and electrical distribution scopes
  • Devise power distribution expansion strategies for sites
  • Devise cutover strategies for electrical power and control system upgrades to provide safety and the least possible downtime for the production sites
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Approximately 3 or more years of project engineering experience successfully leading projects full cycle through completion
  • Demonstrated ability to develop detailed and clear construction bid packages
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand project engineering documents such as P-IDs, PFDs, project execution plans, project schedules, cost reports, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve Electrical and Instrumentation issues as they arise
  • Experience in leading project teams and demonstrated ability to delegate tasks to team members and lead them in successful execution
