About the position

The Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Technician at Weyerhaeuser is responsible for maintaining and repairing electrical equipment in a high-tech lumber manufacturing facility. This role involves ensuring safety, productivity, and quality by coordinating with production teams and addressing machine issues proactively. The technician will utilize preventive maintenance methods and troubleshooting skills to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Identify safety, environmental, quality, and production issues and take proactive measures to address them.
  • Coordinate activities with production teams to maximize productivity and minimize costs.
  • Resolve machine issues and build teamwork among associates.
  • Ensure adherence to site policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Perform electrical repairs safely and efficiently, including visual inspections and coordinating repairs.
  • Manage preventive electrical systems to reduce unscheduled downtime.
  • Document maintenance work in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Analyze equipment failures to prevent recurrence and work with craft and operating associates.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 3 years of industrial electrical experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Experience working with manufacturing equipment.
  • Good troubleshooting and failure analysis skills.
  • Proven experience in preventive and predictive maintenance methods.
  • Ability to identify root causes of problems and initiate corrective actions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn CMMS.

Nice-to-haves

  • Vocational or technical school certificate in a related area.
  • Past employment experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with AB Drives and Soft Starts (Power Flex, SMC).
  • Experience with SAP or another CMMS.
  • Understanding of basic networking equipment.
  • Ability to work on camera systems.
  • PLC troubleshooting and/or programming experience (Control Logix).
  • Experience working with measurement devices, such as thermocouples, RTDs, and pressure/flow sensors.
  • Understanding of linear positioning and encoders.
  • Mechanical knowledge related to conveying, pneumatics, and hydraulic systems.
