About the position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the manufacturing maturation of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) turbine components. CMCs are an enabling material that increases the temperature capability of jet engine components. Through successful development and application of these materials, P&W will deliver engines that are more fuel efficient, lighter weight, and more durable for commercial and military applications. This position involves a variety of responsibilities including design and development, system integration, troubleshooting and maintenance, calibration and testing, documentation, safety compliance, and collaboration with other engineers and technicians. The successful candidate will create and develop ladder logic programs for Siemens PLC control systems, work closely with manufacturing and engineering integrated teams to develop new processes, and implement new designs into production. Additionally, the role requires integrating instrumentation and control systems with existing processes and machinery, leading strategies for comprehensive data collection and analysis, and ensuring minimal downtime through effective troubleshooting and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems. The candidate will also be responsible for maintaining detailed documentation of control systems and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create and develop ladder logic programs for Siemens PLC control systems.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and engineering integrated teams to develop new processes and implement new designs into production.
  • Integrate instrumentation and control systems with existing processes and machinery.
  • Create and implement strategies for automation to improve quality and minimize process cost.
  • Lead the strategy for comprehensive data collection and analysis that will support robust process development and understanding as part of the digital thread for CMCs.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation and control systems, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Conduct root cause investigations as required and implement corrective actions.
  • Calibrate instruments and control devices to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of control systems, including P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), loop sheets, and SEMA drawings.
  • Ensure all systems comply with safety regulations and standards.
  • Work closely with other engineers, technicians, and stakeholders to optimize system performance.
