About the position

The Instrumentation Chemist at Lithos Carbon will focus on utilizing advanced laboratory instrumentation to analyze the chemical composition of inorganic and geological materials. This role is crucial for supporting research in environmental science, agriculture, and materials science, contributing to innovative technologies aimed at combating climate change and enhancing soil health.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain analytical instruments for inorganic and geochemical analysis, including ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRF, and liquid chromatography.
  • Analyze inorganic compounds and geological materials to determine their chemical and mineralogical composition and physical properties.
  • Perform sample preparation, digestion, and data collection using laboratory instrumentation, interpreting results with knowledge of inorganic chemistry and geochemistry.
  • Develop and refine analytical methods tailored to geochemistry, including sample preparation and kinetic characterization techniques.
  • Collaborate with geochemists, environmental scientists, and engineers to provide analytical support in research projects related to natural resources, soil health, and water quality.
  • Ensure accuracy and precision of analyses by calibrating instruments and adhering to quality control standards.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master's) in Analytical Chemistry, Geochemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Strong practical experience with analytical instrumentation in a wet chemistry laboratory setting is essential.
  • Proven ability to develop and standardize new methods for equipment and process validation.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting advanced analytical instruments.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in both data analysis and documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address issues with instrumentation and methods.
  • Ability to clearly communicate findings, procedures, and technical information to colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of geochemical processes, trace element analysis, and chemical behavior in natural environments.
  • Ability to identify and diagnose problems with instrumentation and perform minor repairs or coordinate with technicians for complex repairs.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations related to soil and water testing is advantageous.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior knowledge or experience in soil science and/or agronomy is desirable.
