About the position

Burgess & Niple is seeking an Instrumentation & Control Engineer to join our team, with the opportunity to work from any of our office locations in Akron, Cincinnati, Columbus, Painesville, OH, Parkersburg, WV, or Norfolk, VA. This position is ideal for individuals who value collaboration and employee input within an A/E firm. The successful candidate will be responsible for applying best practices in SCADA design and implementation specifically within the Water/Wastewater Industry. This role involves traveling to client facilities to participate in field activities, assessing and documenting the current state of installed control systems, and coordinating with both internal design staff and client staff to provide appropriate control systems design. In addition to design responsibilities, the Instrumentation & Control Engineer will be tasked with the selection and specification of process instrumentation, control panels, and network equipment. The role also includes developing biddable and technically accurate SCADA/I&C construction documents, which encompass P&IDs, network architecture diagrams, control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, installation details, loop drawings, and technical specifications. Furthermore, the engineer will develop PLC programs and HMI applications, as well as support system testing and commissioning activities. This position requires a strong commitment to quality and adherence to industry standards, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent from an ABET accredited college or university, along with a minimum of five years of relevant experience. While a Professional Engineer (PE) registration and ISA Certification are preferred, they are not mandatory. The candidate should have experience with the National Electrical Code, networking, cyber security, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office applications. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Applying best practices in SCADA design and implementation in the Water/Wastewater Industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • Five or more years of experience in the field.
  • Application of and compliance with National Electrical Code.
  • Experience with Networking, Cyber Security, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with clients and colleagues.

Nice-to-haves
