About the position

Kiewit is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer 1 to join our innovative team of engineers and designers in Houston, Texas. This entry-level position is part of a collaborative environment that supports projects across the company. The successful candidate will work closely with Kiewit's module fabrication and construction teams, focusing on construction-driven engineering that emphasizes safety, cost-effectiveness, and innovative designs. As part of the Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc., the Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will be involved in a full-service engineering firm that serves the oil, gas, and chemical markets. Our team possesses expertise across all major engineering disciplines, particularly in LNG, midstream, refining, and petrochemical sectors. With over 130 years of construction experience, Kiewit emphasizes constructability and safety from the earliest project phases to ensure timely and budget-conscious project delivery. The rapidly growing oil, gas, and chemical team includes various engineering disciplines, focusing on the EPCC delivery model for dynamic process facilities. In this role, the engineer will perform basic calculations under the supervision of more senior engineers, identify problems, and develop electrical load lists and one-line diagrams by reviewing P&IDs and mechanical equipment lists. The position requires a solid foundation of technical knowledge and a willingness to learn and adapt to new methods and standards. The engineer will also engage in non-routine technical assignments and collaborate effectively within teams to achieve project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic calculations under the supervision of a more senior engineer.
  • Able to identify problems and their level of complexity.
  • Has solid foundation of understanding and ability to use technical knowledge.
  • Reviews P&ID's and mechanical equipment lists to develop electrical load lists and one line diagrams.
  • Expands knowledge through training and work experience.
  • Learns codes and standards to complete assignments.
  • Performs non-routine technical assignments of limited scope.
  • Performs tasks according to company procedure industry codes and regulations.
  • Open to new ways of doing things and learning from those around them.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering minimum required.
  • 0-2 years' minimum relevant experience in refining and petrochemical industry.
  • Adjusts to varying demands of work and performs well.
  • Receives direction from more experienced engineer.
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing. Present ideas clearly and in professional manner.
  • Participates on teams effectively. Accepts direction from the team. Individually contributes to success of the team.
  • Develops cooperative working relationships and open communication within and across groups, to work towards solutions that benefit all involved parties.
