About the position

Nexus Circular is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching, designing, and developing devices and components for process controls. This role requires extensive knowledge and experience with the selection of Pressure, Temperature, Level, and Flow Meters, as well as other instruments used in Process Control. The engineer will specify both discrete, analog, and networked control solutions, ensuring compliance with NEC hazardous area classifications and known process temperatures, particularly high-temperature components above 400°C. The engineer will prepare specifications and design-bid documentation, review supplier designs against licensor, code, and customer requirements, and assist in the design and modification of new and existing process control and instrumentation systems. Additionally, the role involves developing instrumentation standards, making recommendations for additional equipment, and participating in the review of Management of Changes, PHA Action Requests, Construction Information Requests, and Change Order Requests. The engineer will also assist with local, state, and federal permitting applications, identify deficiencies during construction activities, witness I&C testing, and assist with loop checking, documentation checking, plant commissioning, and start-up. The position may require travel to other Nexus locations, approximately 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and develop devices and components for process controls.
  • Select Pressure, Temperature, Level, and Flow Meters and other instruments used in Process Control.
  • Specify discrete, analog, and networked control solutions.
  • Prepare specifications and design-bid documentation.
  • Review supplier designs against licensor, code, and customer requirements.
  • Assist in the design and modification of new and existing process control and instrumentation systems.
  • Develop instrumentation standards for compliance across multiple facilities.
  • Make recommendations for additional equipment as necessary.
  • Participate in the review of Management of Changes, PHA Action Requests, Construction Information Requests, and Change Order Requests.
  • Assist with local, state, and federal permitting applications.
  • Identify deficiencies during construction activities and add to punchlist.
  • Inspect punch list rectification activities and witness I&C testing.
  • Assist with loop checking, documentation checking, plant commissioning, and start-up.
  • Liaise with EPC and equipment suppliers.
  • Travel to other Nexus locations as required (~10%).

Requirements

  • AS or BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge/experience of National Electric Code with emphasis on Article 500.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Functional Safety (IEC 61508/61511 & SIL levels).
  • Experience with Management of Change systems.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completed process and plant engineering training in a previous role.
  • 5 plus years PLC programming and configuration experience in a process environment using automation products from Rockwell Software, Siemens, Codesys based equipment.
  • 5 plus years experience performing setup, testing, and commissioning Instrumentation in a construction and process environment.
  • 5 plus years experience in configuring and testing communications using gateway devices that allow data exchange with multiple industrial protocols including Modbus, Profinet / Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus.
