About the position

The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer D position at TVA Nuclear in Decatur, Alabama, is a pivotal role that provides technical leadership within the Electrical / Instrumentation & Control Design Engineering department. The engineer will coordinate and review the work of a small team of multidiscipline engineers, specialists, technicians, and contractor personnel. This role serves as the primary point of contact for the work group regarding new or modified tasks, ensuring that work assignments are effectively distributed among lower-level staff while meeting designated completion dates. In this capacity, the engineer will plan, develop, coordinate, and direct the day-to-day technical aspects of significant engineering projects or multiple smaller projects that feature complex elements. A substantial portion of the work directed is comparable to that performed by senior-level engineers, and the engineer will provide input to the engineering manager on ongoing work, technical issues that require elevation, and workplace matters. The role also involves performing engineering work assignments as needed, including senior-level engineering tasks as part of regular responsibilities. The engineer will apply extensive knowledge of electrical engineering design principles and practices across a broad range of assignments and project responsibilities. This includes making independent engineering judgments and decisions on design problems and methods. The engineer will represent the work group in meetings to plan, schedule, and coordinate work projects, resolve technical issues, and report or obtain information as requested by the engineering manager. It is important to note that while the engineer will lead technical efforts, they will not be responsible for supervisory administrative duties such as performance evaluations or disciplinary actions.
