About the position

As an Entry Level I&C Engineer at Sargent & Lundy, you will have the opportunity to leverage and expand your academic background in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering. This position is designed for recent graduates who are eager to apply their knowledge in a practical setting while working on project teams with experienced I&C engineers. You will be involved in the design of new upstream and midstream oil and gas facilities, contributing to various aspects of the engineering process. Your responsibilities will include developing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), creating Input/Output (I/O) Lists, designing Control Panels, and developing Cause and Effect (C&E) diagrams. Additionally, you will work on Control Narratives, Network Architecture, Cable Schedules, Location Plans, and the preparation of specifications for the procurement of instrumentation and controls equipment and related installation services. In this role, you will also participate in Process Hazard Analysis and Design Reviews, ensuring that all designs meet safety and operational standards. You will have the opportunity to work directly with client representatives, facilitating communication and addressing any questions related to the Instrumentation and Controls design. The position emphasizes professional development through mentoring, classroom-style technical sessions, and on-the-job training, allowing you to enhance your knowledge and skills in your engineering discipline. Furthermore, you will be required to travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs. Responsibilities

  • Develop Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Create Input/Output (I/O) Lists.
  • Design Control Panels.

  • Prepare Control Narratives and Network Architecture.
  • Create Cable Schedules and Location Plans.
  • Prepare specifications for procurement of instrumentation and controls equipment.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis and Design Reviews.
  • Work directly with client representatives to address design-related questions.
  • Engage in mentoring and technical training sessions to enhance engineering skills.
  • Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and site verification.

Requirements

  • A BS or MS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with a graduation date by Spring 2025.
  • Strong academic background and coursework in analog and digital control systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant oil and gas or industrial experience.
  • Understanding of practical application of instrumentation and controls engineering and technology.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, especially MS Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer in Training.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for producing technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Experience with SCADA and Radio Networks.
