About the position

United E&C, Inc. is seeking an Electrical / Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer I/II in Charlotte, NC. This role involves assisting with engineering modification projects for nuclear generating stations, working under the supervision of a Lead Engineer. The position is suitable for candidates with 0-4 years of experience and focuses on both existing and new generation nuclear plants.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with engineering modification projects for nuclear generating stations.
  • Prepare Engineering Change Packages including specifications, data sheets, calculations, and modifications to existing plant drawings.
  • Support proposals, prepare purchase requisitions, and review vendor drawings.
  • Design for New Generation Nuclear plants including Small Modular Reactors (SMR).
  • Support the development of conceptual design and related design basis documents for licensing of new nuclear generating plants.
  • Prepare specifications and bid packages for control systems and detailed I&C design for new generating plants.
  • Coordinate activities with clients, contractors, vendors, and project team members.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering from an accredited 4-year university with coursework in control systems.
  • For level II: 2-4 years overall experience in design of control systems for power plants or heavy industrial facilities.
  • 1 year of experience in I&C design for nuclear plants in North America including new plants or modification of existing operating plants.
  • Familiarity with control system architecture and design basis documents for new generation plants.
  • Familiarity with the nuclear standard design process and engineering drawings for modifications to operating nuclear plants.
  • Experience evaluating pressure, temperature, flow, and level process instrumentation.
  • Experience performing calculations for a nuclear plant such as instrument set-points.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, EPRI, ISA and IAEA Codes and Standards and NRC Reg Guides relating to nuclear plant licensing and design.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Expertise using Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • FE Part A professional licensure certification.
  • 2 years of experience in design for new nuclear generating stations.
  • Experience with digital upgrades at operating nuclear plants.
  • Familiarity with NEI 08-09 and experience with cyber-security assessments.
  • Experience with Human Factors Engineering.
  • Experience with NUREG 0800, Chapters 7, 8 and 18.
