We are seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer III to join our Charlotte, NC office. This role involves working collaboratively with a team of engineers and designers on modification packages for our nuclear clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing complex engineering assignments, which include the preparation of specifications and data sheets, calculations, and modifications to existing plant drawings. Additionally, the engineer will provide support for proposals, prepare purchase requisitions, review vendor drawings, and develop cost estimates, budgets, schedules, and scope of work documents. This position requires strong technical and interpersonal skills to navigate the complexities of engineering projects effectively. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in engineering principles and practices, particularly in the context of nuclear power plants, and will be expected to lead and mentor junior staff while interfacing with various stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Complete complex engineering assignments including preparation of modification packages that include specifications and data sheets, calculations, and modifications to existing plant drawings.
  • Provide support to proposals and prepare purchase requisitions.
  • Review vendor drawings and develop cost and budget estimates, schedules, and scope of work documents.
  • Lead a team of engineers and technicians, providing training and mentoring to junior staff.
  • Interface with other members of the project team, including other disciplines, clients, contractors, and vendors.
  • Utilize strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address engineering challenges.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering from an accredited 4-year university.
  • 5 years overall experience in design, operations, or field service/support for power plants or heavy industrial facilities.
  • 3 years of experience relating to design, operation, or maintenance of operating nuclear power plants in the U.S.
  • Experience leading a team of engineers and technicians and training/mentoring junior staff.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Expertise using Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to obtain unescorted access to a nuclear power plant.

Nice-to-haves

  • Field experience at an operating nuclear plant.
  • Experience using CAD software to prepare or revise technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with the Nuclear standard Design Process and experience preparing engineering drawings including wiring diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, logic diagrams, and instrument hookups for plant modification packages.
  • Preparation of specifications for control of plant process/auxiliary systems.
  • Preparation and review of logic diagrams and system functional descriptions for implementation of system control logic into plant control systems.
  • Experience evaluating and specifying pressure, temperature, flow, and level process instrumentation.
  • Experience performing calculations for a Nuclear plant such as instrument set-points.
  • Supervisory experience leading other engineers and designers assigned to the project.
