About the position

As an Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Intern within our Energy & Industrial Group (EIG), you will play a vital role in supporting industry-leading projects focused on power generation, plant design, and environmental compliance. Our team is at the forefront of efforts to decarbonize the industry, utilizing advanced technologies in renewable energy, carbon capture, and hydrogen power. You will be involved in detailed engineering services for photovoltaic (PV) solar projects and the integration of solar and energy storage systems. Our EIG teams are recognized leaders in carbon capture technologies, executing projects from pilot-scale to commercial-scale for utilities and industrial plants. Additionally, you will support engineering services for green hydrogen production via electrolysis, leveraging various power sources such as solar, wind, hydro, and nuclear. In this internship, you will be assigned to a project team where you will assist engineering team members in executing their project work. This may include designing new systems or modifying and upgrading existing power plant systems and components. Under the guidance of senior engineers, you will have the opportunity to apply and expand your academic knowledge in Electrical/I&C Engineering. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and designs, as well as participating in electric power equipment document reviews. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and designs.
  • Be involved in electric power equipment document reviews.
  • Support project teams in the execution of engineering tasks related to power plant systems.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to modify and upgrade existing systems.

Requirements

  • Must have an expected graduation date in Winter 2025 or Spring 2026 toward a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program.
  • Strong academic background and coursework in electrical and controls power concepts and AC power systems analysis.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong PC skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior, related internship or co-op experience is preferred.
  • An understanding of the practical application of electrical engineering and technology, including applying systems, principles, techniques, and procedures to a project design.
