Our rapidly growing Industrial Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct engineering cost, feasibility and planning studies analyzing customer needs and data including researching, investigate and coordinate with other engineers, and providing recommendations to the customer.
  • Administer contracts for instrumentation and control equipment, especially the Distributed Control System (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC).
  • Monitor and plan for required submittal dates.
  • Respond to questions and Requests for Interpretation (RFIs) from the construction contractor dealing with applicable instrumentation and control systems, equipment, operations, and startup.
  • Perform intermediate calculations and solve problems using well established scientific principles.
  • Perform instrument air consumption, voltage drop calculations.
  • Conduct routine technical assignments and develop small to mid-size project or proposals.
  • Work with designers to develop engineering and design documents as needed for the project.
  • Consider multiple solutions and make good decisions based on good data analysis.
  • Recognize, troubleshoot and resolve design constraints and issues. Apply economic analysis to determine best cost solutions.
  • Have a good understanding of the complete design and provide input into ways of improving the design and lowering costs with little to no supervision.
  • Utilize codes and standards to complete assignments.
  • Identify changes in the scope of work during a small project and produce design changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule.
  • Perform assigned work efficiently and effectively to maximize personal productivity.
  • Lead quality checks of the design and engineering of a small to mid-size project to ensure accuracy.
  • Establish credibility in terms of technical competency.
  • Review OEM vendor packages for technical compliance to specifications.
  • Develop I&C design deliverables including Instrument List, Instrument Data Sheets, IO List, Network Architecture, Loop Drawings, and Control Narratives.
  • Review and manage I&C aspects of P&IDs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering in an instrumentation controls, electrical, mechanical, chemical, physics, or equivalent engineering program from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university program.
  • At least 8 years' experience performing engineering-related duties in I&C systems design, as outlined above.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred.
  • Must have familiarity with control system programming and fluency in reading logic diagrams.
  • Intermediate and advanced programming experience, especially with regard to DCS and/or Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming.
  • Experience in field construction, industrial, power or start-up work is desirable.
