About the position

The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer at KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) plays a pivotal role in providing holistic and value-added solutions across the entire asset life cycle. This position involves leading multiple projects with a focus on instrumentation specifications, control systems, and analyzer specifications. The engineer will be responsible for providing technical specialist leadership, ensuring that all project specifications meet client requirements and adhere to industry best practices. This role requires a strong emphasis on safety, as the engineer will lead safety reviews and safety loop designs, ensuring that all projects are executed with the highest safety standards in mind. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will lead a project instrumentation team, which may consist of 1 to 5+ members. Mentoring earlier career department members is a key aspect of this role, fostering growth and development within the team. The engineer will also be involved in interdisciplinary coordination and interoffice collaboration, ensuring that all aspects of the project are aligned and executed efficiently. The position is expected to function in a hybrid work environment, requiring the ability to travel to client sites for walk-downs, kick-off meetings, and design reviews. The engineer will develop and manage the preparation, review, and checking of instrument specification packages, supporting work group leads on various project tasks. Participation in the entire procurement life cycle and special assignments tailored to the candidate's technical focus will also be part of the responsibilities. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical specialist leadership to multiple projects.
  • Influence instrumentation specifications, control system specifications, and analyzer specifications.
  • Provide checking and review services for projects.
  • Lead project instrumentation teams of 1-5+ members.
  • Mentor earlier career department members.
  • Provide leadership in safety reviews and safety loop designs.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary and interoffice activities to ensure project success.
  • Develop and manage the preparation, review, and checking of instrument specification packages in accordance with client requirements and industry best practices.
  • Support work group leads on a wide range of project tasks.
  • Participate in the entire procurement life cycle while working closely with all disciplines.
  • Participate in department training programs and help arrange technical training for the department when requested.

Requirements

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or another related field.
  • 15 years of experience in the EPC industry or chemical/biofuels operating companies.
  • Experience with chemical site team or project engineering backgrounds in related industries is considered.
  • Operations/Maintenance and Reliability experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of other engineering disciplines with proactive leadership on interdisciplinary design coordination efforts.
  • Ability to travel as needed to survey client sites.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with supervisory experience.
