About the position

The Instrumentation Department Manager at Wood is responsible for leading the Instrumentation Departments to ensure engineering and project delivery excellence. This role involves recruiting, developing, and retaining talent while positioning the department as a center of excellence in the global engineering community. The manager will oversee engineering solutions, guide teams in problem resolution, and ensure compliance with industry standards and quality assurance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, develop, and retain qualified and highly motivated staff.
  • Complete performance reviews, career conversations, and competency assessments to support department improvement and personnel growth.
  • Lead department initiative development and implementation to support continuous improvement and predictable execution.
  • Prepare the department for future project challenges as technology and client requirements evolve.
  • Guide Instrumentation leads, engineers, and designers in resolving engineering and design problems according to industry principles, codes, and standards.
  • Collaborate with construction partners to quickly respond to site issues.
  • Develop home office manhour estimates, assign personnel to projects, and approve timesheets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Project Directors and Project Managers to align project support with strategic objectives.
  • Provide staff with training and access to technical expertise to ensure project success.
  • Ensure familiarity and compliance with quality and assurance systems across the department.
  • Supervise discipline engineering staff, including job performance and professional development oversight.
  • Manage department overhead costs and salary administration.
  • Oversee design efforts to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

Requirements

  • Requires full understanding of electrical, instrument, and process controls discipline delivery requirements.
  • Prefer 15 to 25 years' experience with design of power and control systems for heavy industrial installations, primarily in the Oil and Gas onshore and offshore markets.
  • Previous experience (>10 years) in instrumentation design in Consulting Engineering in North America.
  • Previous experience (>10 years) in instrumentation design in an EPC organization in North America.
  • Registered Professional Engineer required.
  • B. Sc. in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
