About the position

The Instrumentation & Electrical Designer at CDI Corporation is responsible for performing a variety of electrical, instrumentation, and controls design work to enhance the performance of chemical production units and auxiliary systems. This role requires a thorough technical knowledge of electric power systems, field instrumentation, and control systems, along with a basic understanding of chemical and physical processes. The primary objective is to provide design and technical services that ensure safe operations, regulatory compliance, and maximize efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Design for Capital Projects.
  • Supporting Engineering and Construction Contractors on an as needed basis.
  • Able to coordinate with client Engineering Design Team and/or Outside Engineering Resources.
  • Supporting Operations and Maintenance as a technical resource when needed.
  • Being able to understand and apply industry codes that apply to an industrial manufacturer.
  • Provides instrumentation and controls design support to all phases of project design, execution, installation, commissioning and operation.
  • Maintains and applies company instrumentation design criteria and specifications as well as industry recognized standards.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses instrumentation related issues including electrical, mechanical, and computer-controlled systems.
  • Assists in factory acceptance testing and field inspections.
  • Responsible for creating, updating and drafting design documents including but not limited to loop sheets, motor schematics, panel schedules, I/O cabinets and onelines.
  • Proposes options to resolve issues. Has a bias for action.
  • Results oriented. Drive to achieve objectives. Accepts the consequences of their actions.
  • Creates solutions to complex, non-routine problems.
  • Provides recommendations to management within business/functional team.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of technical standards and guidelines (API, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, etc.)
  • Ability to translate creative ideas into tangible solutions.
  • 5+ years of Electrical, Instrumentation or Controls installation experience.
  • 5+ years of related experience in a Design Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering role.
  • Associate's Degree in Electrical, Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent science degree.
