The Instrumentation & Electrician Technician must be able to test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul and repair controlling, indicating and measuring instrument devices to ensure specified operating performance using hand tools, testing and calibrating instruments and equipment and precision measuring instruments. Ability to read and understand manuals, blueprint schematics and testing specifications is essential. Must have some knowledge of electrical schematics and PLCs. Other duties may be assigned. Plant Maintenance experience preferred. Heavy on instrument.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and works from related blueprints and other schematic drawings.
  • Calibrates, installs and/or removes various instrumentation devices.
  • Cuts, bends and installs tubing needed for the proper installation of the instrumentation device.
  • Reads and understands quality control manuals and testing specifications to obtain data needed to test or calibrate specific devices.
  • Sets controls to regulate factors such as current flow, timing cycle, pressure or vacuum, or temperature according to specifications.
  • Disassembles instrument or device to determine cause of defective operation or failure.
  • Rejects malfunctioning devices and routes to specified departments for repair or salvaging of survivable parts.
  • Layouts, fabricates and installs tubing and tub trays.
  • Applies knowledge of mathematics to instrumentation, such as ratio and proportions, numbers with power of 10's, algebra equations, English-to-metric conversion, inches of water to PSI, inches of mercury to PSI.
  • Reads blueprints, schematics and loop drawings and prepares job reports.
  • Assembles and disassembles all types of electronic process controls, pneumatic controls and hydraulic systems and components.
  • Calibrates equipment using common calibration procedures and knows where to find other procedures.
  • Understands the principles of pH and redox and equipment needed to measure them.
  • Works with and understands Ohm's Law and Kerchoff's Law and with Diodes, capacitors and other electrical components.
  • Understands steam and how it reacts to different situations.
  • Works with principles of chemistry and physics required in instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoots and checks out electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using proper test equipment.
  • Understands fundamental instrumentation loops and how they function as a loop.
  • Understands common types of chemical plant process equipment such as distillation columns, heat exchangers, boilers, turbines and compressors.
  • Applies procedures for measuring pressure level, flow, temperature, weight, density, heat flux, humidity and moisture.
  • Maintains current electrician's license or identification card to meet state regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • NCCER, TDLR Electrical License, TWIC and DL.
  • 5+10 years of Journeyman level experience.
