About the position

The Instrumentation Engineer at Blue Origin plays a crucial role in the Lunar Transportation business unit, focusing on the development of flight instrumentation for the Blue Moon lander product lines. This position involves collaboration with design engineers, managing suppliers, and ensuring the successful execution of sensor testing and verification to support the mission of sustainable lunar infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Develop flight instrumentation and collaborate with design engineers to understand and document their instrumentation requirements and interfaces
  • Select, design, and test sensors for the fluids and propulsion integrated product team
  • Engage with instrumentation suppliers to develop the flight sensors and help create strategic relationships with them
  • Write specifications, verification plans and system safety artifacts for flight sensors
  • Create mechanical and electrical drawings for sensor assemblies
  • Plan and execute sensor characterization, verification, and qualification test campaigns
  • Interact with internal and external partners to track instrumentation engineering development and ensure the release of installation drawings per schedule

Requirements

  • B.S. degree or higher in electrical, mechanical, aerospace, or other appropriate engineering or physics field
  • 5+ years of experience in design, test, and operation of transducers for the aerospace industry
  • Experience managing suppliers and projects from initial concept through production
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
