About the position

The Instrumentation Engineer will be responsible for performing comprehensive designs for electrical and instrumentation engineering assignments, both small and large, under general supervision. This role involves utilizing theoretical knowledge and practical design methods to ensure projects meet client expectations and adhere to industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete designs of electrical and instrumentation engineering assignments.
  • Utilize department design and drafting standards.
  • Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly.
  • Provide on-site assistance during startup.
  • Produce estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs.
  • Create detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction.
  • Check calculations made by other engineers for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist the drafting group in resolving layout and detailing problems.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines for project completion.
  • Advise senior engineers on design or scope changes.
  • Assist in developing scopes, drawings, and specifications for procurement inquiries.
  • Review vendor drawings for electrical/instrumentation input.
  • Develop construction specifications and review fabrication drawings.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather data and provide construction support.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies for engineering tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction materials and equipment.
  • Ability to perform lighting level calculations and size wire, conduit, and overcurrent protection.
  • Ability to perform voltage drop calculations and route conduit and cable tray.
  • Ability to calculate tray and conduit fill and determine motor control center loading.
  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from vendor equipment drawings.
  • Ability to size control valves and develop specifications for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Knowledge of schedule constraints for electrical deliverables.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD or Microstation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with standards that apply to instrumentation and controls (ISA).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
