About the position

Lockheed Martin is seeking an Instrumentation Engineer to join our team at Edwards Air Force Base, California. In this role, you will be responsible for integrating requirements and programming new instrumentation data acquisition equipment, including FTI fiber systems and both analog and digital signal conditioning hardware during integration and flight tests. You will work independently or lead a team to execute project, schedule, and technical requirements to meet the goals of the test program. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the installation, checkout, and calibration of data systems to ensure that collected data can be properly displayed, processed, and analyzed. You will maintain configuration control and mission capability of the instrumentation system, as well as all associated ground support equipment. Additionally, you will be responsible for the specification, selection, design, integration, operation, and maintenance of airborne data acquisition systems and their related components, which include telemetry, flight test-specific hardware, or prototypes for flight test evaluation. You will support preflight, post-flight, and control room activities for all scheduled missions, interfacing with test operations, maintenance, and management to ensure all instrumentation requirements are coordinated and accounted for. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills are essential, along with excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. This position may require extended hours, off-shift work, and weekends as necessary, along with occasional travel as required by the Test Program. This is a level 3 position, typically requiring 5 to 9 years of professional experience. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, as this position is located at a facility that requires special access.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate requirements and program new instrumentation data acquisition equipment.
  • Oversee installation, checkout, and calibration of data systems.
  • Maintain configuration control and mission capability of the instrumentation system.
  • Support preflight, post-flight, and control room activities for all scheduled missions.
  • Interface with test operations, maintenance, and management to ensure all instrumentation requirements are coordinated.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience/combined education.
  • At least five years of related professional experience.
  • Ability to develop, test, and troubleshoot data acquisition systems and other instrumentation devices.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and process specifications.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting techniques and tools, including multi-meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well individually and with team members across multiple organizations.
  • Aircraft systems operations experience.
  • Previous experience with Curtiss-Wright, Safran, or similar instrumentation hardware.
