About the position

HX5 is seeking an Instrumentation Engineer to support the developmental test and evaluation (DT&E) of various U.S. Air Force aircraft systems at Eglin AFB. The role involves working within an integrated product team to develop and test new capabilities, design instrumentation systems, and ensure mission readiness through data collection and analysis. The position requires collaboration with technical teams and hands-on work with aircraft instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the developmental test and evaluation (DT&E) of US Air Force Special Operations and other fixed-wing aircraft.
  • Works as a member of an integrated product team to develop and test new capabilities for the Air Force.
  • Designs new aircraft and ground station instrumentation systems or modifications to existing equipment.
  • Develops instrumentation packages to collect test data from various sources to support test objectives.
  • Coordinates with integrated test team personnel to define data collection requirements.
  • Reviews technical specifications and system design documents.
  • Attends test meetings, technical interchange meetings, and design reviews.
  • Develops instrumentation plans and detailed modification packages for airworthiness certifications.
  • Installs instrumentation equipment on test aircraft, including data recorders and sensors.
  • Performs duties onboard test aircraft during ground operations and troubleshooting instrumentation systems as required.
  • Travels to offsite locations and transports equipment as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an applicable engineering discipline.
  • 3 to 10 years of technical experience in instrumentation engineering.
  • Experience instrumenting digital data busses, video, avionics, and communications systems.
  • Experience with instrumenting and recording digital and analog sensors, including accelerometers, thermocouples, and strain gauges.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to physically work on or near aircraft in various locations and conditions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience instrumenting and testing military aircraft/systems.
  • Design experience using SolidWorks/Electrical CAD software.
