About the position

Astrion is seeking an Instrumentation Engineering Technician III to join our team in Huntsville, AL, supporting the Redstone Test and Engineering Services (RTES) contract for the Army Division. This role is crucial in ensuring the success of various testing operations, particularly in the area of propulsion testing. The technician will be responsible for supporting instrumentation operations in and around test stands and fixtures, which involves planning, setting up, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining range instrumentation. The position requires a strong understanding of electronics and instrumentation techniques, as well as the ability to operate various types of equipment under outdoor conditions. The technician will work closely with senior engineers and technicians during test operations, both locally and during CONUS travel missions to other Department of Defense (DoD) test ranges. This role demands a high level of attention to detail, as the technician will monitor test operations, collect and evaluate data for accuracy, and maintain databases. Additionally, the technician will be expected to read and understand schematics and mechanical/electrical drawings, operate oscilloscopes and transient recorders, and handle explosives safely. Responsibilities

  • Support instrumentation operations in and around Test Stand/fixtures.
  • Plan, setup, install, troubleshoot and maintain range instrumentation as a team member.
  • Operate optical equipment in outdoor weather conditions and maintain photo/optical equipment.
  • Operate high-speed digital and imaging equipment and process the imagery.
  • Monitor test operation and collect/evaluate data for accuracy and maintain databases.
  • Support senior engineers and technicians during test operations on local test ranges and CONUS travel missions.
  • Read and understand schematics and mechanical/electrical drawings.
  • Operate equipment such as oscilloscopes, transient recorders, and handle explosives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 5 Total Years of Experience
  • 5 years of applicable experience supporting engineering or testing of hardware in the appropriate area of specialization, or 2 years of applicable college/vocational/military/technical school and 3 years of applicable experience in the assigned specialty area
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants)
  • Must have sixteen (16) weeks of civilian or military training in electronics or basic instrumentation techniques and at least 2 years of experience in electronics/instrumentation supporting engineering or testing of military hardware.
