About the position

The Insurance Analyst position at the Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI) is a critical role that supports the Property Casualty & Title Consumer Services section. This section is responsible for enforcing Colorado insurance statutes and regulations, acting as an ombudsman for consumers who have experienced issues with insurers. The analyst will investigate written complaints from Colorado consumers regarding various types of property and casualty insurance, including homeowner, private passenger automobile, commercial lines, and workers' compensation rate complaints. The position requires a thorough analysis of complaints to identify potential violations of insurance laws and regulations, ensuring compliance and protecting consumer rights. In addition to investigating complaints, the Insurance Analyst will respond to consumer inquiries via telephone and email, providing guidance and information about insurance products and practices. The role involves analyzing and detecting problems or violations of insurance law, determining if individual complaints may indicate widespread issues, and assisting in the development of consumer education materials. This includes identifying common issues and preparing targeted information to help consumers better understand their rights and the insurance process. The DOI is dedicated to consumer protection and promoting a fair and competitive business environment in Colorado. Responsibilities

  • Investigating written complaints filed by Colorado consumers involving all types of property & casualty insurance.
  • Analyzing and detecting problems or violations of insurance law, regulations, and/or policy contract provisions.
  • Determining if an individual complaint case may represent widespread violation or non-compliance with Colorado statutes and/or Division regulations.
  • Assisting in the development of consumer education material, including identification of common issues and preparation of general and specific targeted information.
  • Conducting reviews of applicable Colorado statutes, Division regulations, and/or bulletins to elicit additional facts from the inquirer about specific issues.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of full-time professional experience working in the insurance industry, including educating consumers about insurance product lines, rates, and/or claims.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate's degree in a related field and four (4) years of experience in the insurance industry.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a related field and two (2) years of experience in the insurance industry.
  • Certification as a Certified Insurance Examiner (CIE), Accredited Insurance Examiner (AIE), or similar designation counts for one (1) year of experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated experience working in a state government position conducting research and analyzing insurance policy contracts.
  • Experience investigating complex insurance matters involving diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.
