About the position
The Insurance Authorization Specialist is responsible for ensuring that transplant patients' medical services are covered by insurance. This role involves verifying insurance, submitting authorization requests, and providing guidance to patients regarding their insurance plans. The specialist plays a crucial role in accelerating patient financial clearance and improving operational processes to enhance patient care.
Responsibilities
- Obtain transplant benefits and submit authorization requests via electronic fax or online portal.
- Follow up on authorization requests and communicate with the clinical team or schedulers.
- Assist patients with questions concerning insurance and financial issues.
- Verify transplant coverage and other medical benefits.
- Cultivate relationships with insurance case managers and medical directors to facilitate authorization approvals.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; AA preferred, BA/BS preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in insurance verification, payor/revenue cycle, or benefits.
- Experience in the medical field, particularly in transplant finance, preferred.
- Ability to become proficient in EMR and various IT systems required.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and effective resolution capabilities.
Nice-to-haves
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
- Content knowledge of medical terminology and transplant processes preferred.
