About the position

The Insurance Authorization Specialist plays a crucial role in managing and improving the authorization process for medical procedures, ensuring accurate patient information and timely approvals. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with experience in medical billing, coding, and insurance verification to support a high-volume practice effectively.

Responsibilities

• Confirm patient demographics, guarantor, and insurance information is correct
• Process all work comp surgical requests
• Prepare all required documents for PPO surgery approval
• Obtain pre-authorizations as required for procedures
• Verify insurance eligibility for all patient accounts
• Respond to inquiries from insurance companies, patients, and all third parties
• Update spreadsheets on all pending authorizations
• Schedule peer to peer consultations
• Assign ICD-10 diagnosis codes and CPT code charges to patient charts with accuracy and attention to detail
• Call insurance companies to resolve authorization issues
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of billing, collection, coding, health care practices, laws, and regulations related to claims processing and collections
• Identify and report any potential compliance risks and reimbursement opportunities
• Identify, research, and ensure timely processing of billing errors and corrections
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested

Requirements

• At least 1 year of medical billing and authorization experience
• Strong computer skills
• Good work ethics
• Professional and friendly personality
• Ability to cover workflow accurately and efficiently in a high volume practice
• Ability to work closely with surgery scheduling and ASC

Nice-to-haves

• Previous related experience in medical billing and coding
• Experience with ICD-10
