About the position

The Insurance Authorization Specialist at the Center for Spinal Stenosis is responsible for verifying medical insurance policy benefits and obtaining necessary authorizations or precertifications prior to scheduled procedures. This role ensures that all procedural cases are authorized, referral and pre-authorization activities are completed, and that maximum patient and provider satisfaction is achieved. The specialist will also review medical records, communicate with relevant parties regarding authorization issues, and assist patients in understanding their benefits.

Responsibilities

• Verify medical insurance policy benefit information.
• Obtain required authorizations/precertifications prior to scheduled procedures.
• Authorize all procedural cases for the department.
• Ensure referral and pre-authorization activities are undertaken for maximum satisfaction and reimbursement.
• Review and extract medical records as needed.
• Communicate with physicians, procedural posters, and patients regarding authorization issues.
• Assist in identifying problems and ensuring accurate insurance information on patient accounts.
• Educate patients on their benefits information.

Requirements

• Bilingual in Spanish.
• 1 year of experience in specialty authorizations.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Proficiency in medical records management.
• Familiarity with medical coding procedures (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10).
• Ability to perform insurance verification.
• Experience in managed care settings.
• Understanding of HIPAA regulations.

Nice-to-haves
