About the position
The Insurance Authorization Specialist at Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers plays a crucial role in ensuring that patient insurance records are accurate and up-to-date prior to exams and procedures. This position is essential for facilitating a smooth billing process and providing support to both patients and the front desk staff regarding insurance inquiries. The specialist will be responsible for verifying insurance eligibility, documenting necessary information, and assisting with patient communications related to out-of-pocket costs.
Responsibilities
- Request, obtain, and document all patients' insurance verification/eligibility in a timely manner.
- Run system-generated reports daily to verify patient handling for each day.
- Assist the Front Desk with insurance inquiries.
- Provide Technicians with necessary information for 'day of' procedures ordered by the Doctor.
- Communicate with patients regarding any additional out-of-pocket costs for procedures.
- Serve as back-up for the Front Desk as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Adhere to safety policies and procedures while supporting high-quality customer service.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience completing medical authorizations.
- Strong experience in insurance authorizations, referrals, eligibility, and co-pays.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with a professional attitude.
