About the position

The Insurance Card Specialist at Boulder Medical Center is a full-time role focused on managing insurance-related tasks within the Business Office Team. This position involves explaining insurance coverage to patients, maintaining knowledge of insurance contracts, and ensuring accurate processing of insurance claims. The role is integral to the clinic's operations, contributing to a positive patient experience and efficient billing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Explain different types of insurance coverage to patients and co-workers.
  • Establish and maintain knowledge of BMC contract insurance carriers and their billing requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Accounts Receivable system.
  • Use appropriate forms for charges, adjustments, payments, and refunds.
  • Reconcile account balances by financial class and print ledgers and claim forms.
  • Explain statement and insurance processing to patients, carriers, and co-workers.
  • Understand the patient registration process and use chart/account alerts for accurate information.
  • Document patient status and claim progress using account notes and chart notes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of charge sheets and deliver charges to medical billing.
  • Review insurance claim forms for discrepancies and submit to carriers after making necessary changes.
  • Maintain clean claims and expedite the payment process.
  • Document errors and changes made to account transactions and notify appropriate personnel.
  • Cover the Business Office reception desk when needed.
  • Understand the BMC Credit and Payment Policy and process payments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of health insurance experience or equivalent background.
  • Knowledge of insurance rules and regulations to collect payments.
  • Ability to analyze detailed breakdowns of insurance coverage.
  • Course in Medical Terminology is helpful.
