About the position

As an Insurance Defense Attorney at Liberty Mutual, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional legal services, representing the company and its policyholders in moderately complex civil litigation and workers' compensation matters. This role involves managing the entire legal process, from investigation to trial, while maintaining a healthy work/life balance and enjoying various benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the entire legal process from investigation and discovery through trial preparation and court proceedings.
  • Represent clients in depositions, site inspections, court hearings, and trials.
  • Negotiate settlements as required.
  • Research applicable laws and develop legal strategies for all stages of litigation.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with claims representatives and insured clients.
  • Conduct training sessions for Legal, Claims, or other departments as needed.
  • Draft legal documents including pleadings and motions.

Requirements

  • Membership in the Bar.
  • A minimum of one-year experience as an attorney.
  • Appropriate special licenses to practice before boards or federal courts preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Talent for cultivating strong working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Aptitude for detailed, analytical thinking.
  • Process-oriented mindset with proven ability to meet deadlines and stay organized.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with the latest developments in the practice of law.
  • Knowledge of insurance law is a plus.
  • Proficiency with technologies that reduce costs and facilitate the practice of law and remote work.
