As an Underwriter I, your primary responsibility will be to review individual risks within your assigned program to determine their underwriting acceptability. This includes making decisions to approve, refer, or reject risks based on authority and carrier policies. You'll also play a crucial role in reviewing client property and casualty insurance policies in CAST for validity, and accurately entering data into our policy management system, Visions. Additionally, you'll be responsible for updating policies and policyholder information in Visions, inputting First Reports of Injuries (FROI's) for select clients, entering class codes in Vision, and running reports for policy renewals and data accuracy, as well as fulfilling requests from both internal and external clients. Your teamwork skills will be essential as you collaborate closely with our underwriting team on various projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability, quality and profitability of new and renewal business to achieve overall loss ratio objective.
  • Refer items outside of authority to management/carrier.
  • Market, support and promote program underwriting policies and objectives to agents, board and members.
  • Demonstrate commitment to team goals and objectives.
  • Provide timely, courteous and efficient service to agents, board and members.
  • Participate in available education courses.
  • Inform management of activities and problems within assigned program.
  • Perform other related duties as required or requested.
  • Data entry into Visions and/or iCE.
  • Provide all routine policy maintenance functions including, but not limited to, changes in names, addresses, terminations, addition of job codes and addition of locations for all clients.
  • Provide timely, courteous and efficient service to internal departments and clients.
  • Communicate to carriers, brokers, information service, account managers, claim adjusters & customer service unit.

Requirements

  • Associate degree and two years business experience or Bachelor degree required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Organizational and presentation ability, professional manner and mathematical aptitude.
  • Some insurance background helpful.
  • Flexibility, accuracy, initiative a must.
  • Ability to work as a team member in a rapidly-changing environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.
