About the position

The Insurance Underwriter for Construction Contractor General Liability is responsible for underwriting property and general liability lines, assessing risks, and establishing guidelines through thorough investigation and analysis of applications and related documents. This role involves making decisions on coverage requests, maintaining relationships with agency and broker contacts, and overseeing the actions of Managing General Agents (MGAs). The position offers the possibility of remote work and requires a minimum of 3 years of underwriting experience in general liability.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite Property and General Liability lines, assessing risk and establishing guidelines through investigation and analysis of applications, reports, previous contracts, losses, credit reports, and financial standing.
• Accept, decline, or modify price and limits based on acceptable levels of risk.
• Prospect, develop, and maintain relationships with agency and broker contacts.
• Oversee actions of MGAs and perform on-site audits of records to ensure all underwriting activities are carried out within the proper levels of authority.
• Review requests falling above the authority level granted to the MGA and approve or deny applications.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience underwriting General Liability with knowledge of MGA interactions.
• Experience approving or denying requests for coverage for submissions above the authority given to the MGA.
• Experience underwriting Commercial Casualty with emphasis on GL underwriting activities.
• Experience with Commercial Auto is a plus.
• Experience overseeing Binding Authorities is a plus.
• Ability and proven success in developing a profitable book of business.
