About the position
The Insurance Verification/Authorization Specialist is responsible for verifying patient insurance information and eligibility for services, particularly for Advantage Plans and HMOs. This part-time role involves front desk duties, including patient check-in and check-out, as well as document scanning. The position requires interaction with patients to address inquiries about their insurance coverage while ensuring compliance with managed care protocols and HIPAA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance information and eligibility for services, ensuring compliance with managed care protocols.
- Utilize medical terminology and coding systems, including ICD-10, to accurately document patient records.
- Interact with patients to gather necessary information and address inquiries regarding their insurance coverage.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations while handling sensitive patient data.
- Collaborate with medical staff to streamline office operations and improve patient experience.
- Process authorizations for Advantage Plans and HMOs.
Requirements
- Experience in insurance verification and authorization processes.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems, particularly ICD-10.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients and medical staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
