About the position

The Insurance Verification position at a medical office in Hickory, NC, is primarily responsible for verifying insurance benefits for audiology, surgery, and diagnostic services recommended by physicians. The role involves direct communication with insurance companies to confirm benefits, eligibility, and authorizations. The candidate will also be cross-trained in front-end verification and surgery data entry, requiring strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a demanding workload accurately. This position is onsite and requires effective teamwork and independent work capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Verify policy benefits for all patients with insurance for all locations
• Work and resolve any outstanding issues with policy benefits verification
• Pull allergy, audiology, diagnostic, and surgery recommendations from the prior day
• Check schedule dates for all recommendations and enter into the queue
• Pull patients and verify insurance and start or obtain authorizations as needed
• Review medical policies/restrictions
• Keep updates on patient authorizations and work appeals as needed
• Contact patients with any financial responsibility, scan paperwork, and finalize notes

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of 6 months of experience in a medical billing office setting performing insurance verification
• Working knowledge of medical terminology, ICD 10, CPT codes, benefits, and prior authorizations
• Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone with good customer service
• Ability to manage own workload with accuracy and work under pressure
• Knowledge of insurance guidelines including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements
