About the position

The Intake Assessment Specialist II is a full-time role within the Intake and Assessment team for a residential Substance Use Disorder (SUD) program in Long Beach, CA. The position requires a Registered or Certified Counselor to conduct assessments using the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria, ensuring proper levels of care for patients. The ideal candidate will have experience working with underserved populations and possess strong customer service skills. Bilingual Spanish is a plus, and candidates must be registered or certified with relevant state agencies to qualify for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake and screening of all inquiry calls for admission.
  • Admit new patients into the ASI/AVATAR system under appropriate programs.
  • Assist in completing intake packets and chart records.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of admission or discharge data in ASICSM/AVATAR.
  • Bill for all services provided at the time of admission.
  • Counsel patients on payment requirements and collection of rent.
  • Enter required data elements for the patient accounting system.
  • Maintain unit of service reports and communicate statistics to the Marketing Committee.
  • Keep a calendar of appointments and submit Admission and Discharge reports.
  • Collaborate with outside providers for referrals and admissions.
  • Maintain and distribute caseload lists and case conference logs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Administrator.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current enrollment in or completion of an academic Addiction Studies Program (Level I or II).
  • Registration or Certification with a DADP-approved State level certification agency upon hire.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Understanding of UB92 and HCFA 1500 billing formats.
  • One year of prior admission experience in a behavioral healthcare environment.
  • One year of continuous sobriety, if in recovery.
