About the position

The Integrated Photonics Research Scientist position at BlueHalo involves supporting the Optoelectronic Device and Materials Research Group within the Air Force Research Labs. The role focuses on designing, developing, and fabricating photonic sensor components for next-generation quantum sensors, with an emphasis on solid-state ensemble quantum sensing in diamond using integrated photonics.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and fabricate photonic sensor components and subsystems for quantum sensors.
  • Collaborate with government customers at AFRL to meet project requirements.
  • Conduct laboratory research and interact with technical research teams.
  • Utilize integrated photonic modeling, fabrication, and testing techniques.
  • Develop advanced techniques for hybridization and heterogeneous integration of photonic devices.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Optics, Physics, Electro Optics, or related Engineering fields with 2 years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing industry.
  • Ph.D. in Optics, Physics, or Electro Optics is preferred.
  • Experience in hybrid and heterogeneous materials integration for integrated photonics.
  • Proficiency in simulation, modeling, and optimization of photonic design using tools like FDTD, COMSOL, and Lumerical.
  • 1-3 years of experience in laboratory research and technical team interactions, preferably in a government/DoD environment.
  • Strong background in optics, solid-state physics, statistics, and materials processing.
  • Excellent quantitative and problem-solving skills, along with strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with productivity software suites such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Ability to communicate results clearly, prepare technical reports, and manage time effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a government/DoD laboratory environment.
  • Willingness to collaborate with other scientists and engineers.
