About the position

The Integration and Expansion System Administrator II position at The University of Kansas Health System involves a comprehensive role in systems administration, focusing on the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of server-level enterprise applications and medical devices. The System Administrator (SysAdmin) is tasked with maintaining an end-to-end understanding of the systems they support, assessing the impact of organizational changes, and identifying opportunities and threats related to these systems. This role serves as a critical link between various IT teams, including Radiology, Lab, and Pharmacy, ensuring effective communication and resolution of system issues. As a Tier-II support resource, the System Administrator engages with other team members as necessary, acting as a coordination point for issues related to systems across all IT teams. The responsibilities include maintaining usable systems for end-users, collaborating with vendors and internal teams to resolve system issues within established service level agreements. The role also requires meticulous documentation of system configurations, contacts, and functionalities, contributing to a knowledge base of troubleshooting tips and maintaining training materials. The System Administrator is responsible for planning and scheduling system upgrades and updates, coordinating with various teams and vendors to ensure smooth transitions. Security is a paramount concern, and the SysAdmin must protect hospital assets and information by adhering to organizational policies regarding access management, regulatory compliance, and disaster recovery. Additionally, the role involves verifying application logs to maintain data integrity and ensuring that backup and recovery processes are in place and effective. The position also requires the ability to create, schedule, and distribute reports, model and support system interfaces, and troubleshoot application and server issues. The SysAdmin is expected to be a subject matter expert for assigned systems, maintaining effective communication with vendors and ensuring that their actions align with hospital expectations. A strong technical foundation in databases, networking, hardware, and software is essential, along with the ability to perform systems analysis and project management tasks as needed. Mentoring and training team members, including new employees and interns, is also a key aspect of this role, ensuring knowledge sharing and professional development within the team. Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Tier-II support resource, engaging other team resources as necessary and defined by support processes.
  • Function as a coordination point for issues related to systems between all IT teams.
  • Act as an escalation point for issues with assigned systems that cannot be resolved in TRC.
  • Maintain usable systems for end-users, working with vendors and internal teams to resolve system issues within service level agreements.
  • Maintain documentation on the systems' technical configuration, contacts, and functionality.
  • Contribute and maintain common troubleshooting tips in the designated knowledge base.
  • Keep current vendor and system data owner's contact information in the designated location.
  • Plan and schedule system upgrades and updates, coordinating with other HITS teams, vendors, and users.
  • Protect hospital assets and information by maintaining secure systems and following organizational policies.
  • Verify application logs and monitoring tools to resolve issues that could cause data integrity issues.
  • Ensure retention periods for application data follow hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Verify that systems are completing scheduled and approved backup methodologies and can be restored in the event of a failure or disaster.
  • Maintain knowledge of applications and functional areas entering application data, ensuring compliance with management directives.
  • Manage print queues and printing workflow for applications.
  • Use application functionality to create, schedule, distribute, and print reports.
  • Model, design, monitor, and support system interfaces in conjunction with dedicated interface staff and other teams.
  • Utilize appropriate methods of escalation to resolve application, workstation, and server issues under stressful conditions.
  • Monitor vendor road-maps and communicate points of interest regarding assigned systems.
  • Communicate effectively with system vendors to maintain working relationships and proper systems support.
  • Perform analysis for new system requests and create implementation plans with mild supervision.
  • Function as a project manager on projects not requiring an assigned project manager from the PMO, ensuring appropriate documentation and coordination with resources.
  • Mentor, train, and share knowledge with team members, including training new employees and formal mentorship of level 1 Systems Administrators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or related field or 2:1 equivalent experience.
  • High School Graduate.
  • 5 or more years of experience in a related Information Systems field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Information Systems or related field.
  • 3 or more years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Technical certifications related to ITIL, Windows Administration, Linux Administration, or other IT or System related field of study.
