About the position

The Integrative Biology Research Assistant position at Oregon State University (OSU) is designed for students who are pursuing a program or course of study in biological sciences or a related field. This part-time role allows students to gain hands-on experience in a laboratory setting while contributing to various research projects within the Department of Integrative Biology. The position is structured to accommodate a maximum of 24 hours of work per week during academic terms, with the possibility of increased hours during breaks or terms off, allowing for up to 40 hours per week. The recruitment process is ongoing, and applications are reviewed as needed, with qualified candidates contacted when positions become available. In this role, students will engage in a variety of tasks that include general lab cleaning, washing tanks and dishes, and assisting in running experiments. Responsibilities also extend to animal husbandry, participating in field research, computer data entry, and microscope work. This position is particularly suited for students with federal work study awards, as work study students are preferred. The work environment is a laboratory/office setting, which may involve exposure to dust, noise, and chemicals. Flexibility in working hours is essential, as the ability to work evenings and weekends may be required to complete experiments and projects.

Responsibilities

  • General lab cleaning and moving items as appropriate

Requirements

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
  • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term
  • Students with career goals related to biological sciences or a related field
  • A strong and demonstrable work ethic
