About the position

The position requires a highly skilled individual with a minimum of 5+ years of experience in IP Litigation, specifically within a law firm environment. The candidate will be responsible for creating, organizing, reviewing, and maintaining litigation case files, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date. This role involves monitoring litigation dockets and due dates, as well as managing litigation calendars using CompuLaw. The successful candidate will compile, assist, and prepare court filings, which includes proofreading, cite checking, and assembling exhibits and appendices for District and Appellate courts, as well as the International Trade Commission (ITC). In addition to these responsibilities, the candidate will need to maintain proficiency with the mechanics of e-filing using U.S. District Court CM/ECF filing systems and the USITC EDIS filing system. The role also requires performing factual and legal research in various databases, including LexisNexis, Westlaw, Docket Navigator, PACER, EDIS, and the USPTO. Coordination of document collection, review, and productions in collaboration with litigation support and third-party e-discovery vendors is essential. The candidate will proactively manage all phases of fact and expert discovery and will be responsible for managing the day-to-day workflow and delegation of responsibilities to team members. The position also involves preparing materials for depositions, hearings, trials, and arbitrations, as well as attending and providing support to attorneys at court and agency proceedings, including the ITC. Mentoring junior paralegals and temporary staff as needed is also a key aspect of this role. The candidate must be flexible to work overtime on an as-needed basis and be prepared to take on miscellaneous responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Create, organize, review, and maintain litigation case files.
  • Monitor litigation docket and due dates.
  • Manage litigation calendars using CompuLaw.
  • Compile, assist, and prepare court filings including proofreading, cite checking, motions, briefs, and memoranda; and assembling exhibits and appendices at the District and Appellate courts and the International Trade Commission (ITC).
  • Maintain proficiency with the mechanics of e-filing using U.S. District Court CM/ECF filing systems and USITC EDIS filing system.
  • Perform factual and legal research in databases including LexisNexis, Westlaw, Docket Navigator, PACER, EDIS, and the USPTO.
  • Coordinate document collection, review, and productions in concert with litigation support and third-party e-discovery vendors.
  • Conduct searches on production databases for relevant documents using IPRO, Relativity, and other document management software.
  • Proactively manage all phases of fact and expert discovery.
  • Manage day-to-day workflow and delegation of responsibilities to team members.
  • Prepare materials for depositions, hearings, trials, and arbitrations.
  • Attend and provide support to attorneys at court and agency proceedings including the ITC.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years IP Litigation with law firm experience.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, though not required.
  • Trial experience as a paralegal required.
  • Knowledge of patent or IP litigation and trials preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the litigation process and e-discovery; experience with database management software, review, and production.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Adobe Acrobat; CompuLaw; Case Notebook; Relativity; IPRO (Eclipse); FileSite.
  • Familiarity with litigation and hearings at the ITC is preferred.
  • Willingness to support matters at any level required; possess strong communication skills.
  • Must be capable of managing subordinates as well as 'managing up'; flexible to respond quickly to shifting demands; and ability to work under tight deadlines; handle multiple, detailed tasks simultaneously, and prioritize appropriately.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Must deliver high-quality work product and work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to handle sensitive, confidential business information with the utmost discretion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge and understanding of the litigation process and e-discovery preferred, but not mandatory (client WILLING to train).
  • Cite checking experience preferred (again WILLING to train).
