About the position

The Intellectual Property Paralegal at BMC plays a crucial role in supporting the company's intellectual property function and assisting the Chief IP Counsel. This hybrid position offers an opportunity to engage with various aspects of IP law, including patents and trademarks, while contributing to the overall success of BMC's corporate teams. Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support for patent acquisition and work with internal and outside patent counsel.
  • Implement the company's inventor recognition program and manage patent expiration dates.
  • Handle trademark registration and renewals, perform initial trademark searches, and update the registered trademark list.
  • Collaborate with in-house counsel to secure and renew domain names, and manage domain name expirations or sales.
  • Track accruals and forecasts for the intellectual property budget, pre-review invoices, and update budget status in Excel.
  • Pre-review press releases, approve new product names, and maintain the internal IP website with updated documents and information.
  • Conduct legal research as requested and organize digital files for consistency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in paralegal studies or related field; Paralegal Certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a mid to large corporate legal environment; 3+ years in IP law preferred.
  • Experience with intellectual property including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property management software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Patent & Trademark Office procedures and filings is a plus.
