About the position

The Intellectual Property Paralegal at BMC Software plays a crucial role in providing administrative support for the company's intellectual property function. This position involves collaboration with internal and external counsel on patent and trademark matters, budget management, and maintaining the internal IP repository. Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support for various aspects of the intellectual property function.
  • Assist the Chief IP Counsel with administrative tasks.
  • Collaborate with internal and outside patent counsel on patent acquisition and related statistics.
  • Implement the company's inventor recognition program and manage patent expiration dates.
  • Work with trademark counsel on registration, renewals, and initial trademark searches.
  • Gather financial information for foreign oppositions and trademark litigations.
  • Secure and manage domain names in collaboration with IT and legal teams.
  • Track and manage the intellectual property budget, including accruals and forecasts.
  • Pre-review press releases and approve new product names in collaboration with marketing and product operations.
  • Maintain the internal IP website and corporate IP file repository.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in paralegal studies or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a mid to large corporate legal environment.
  • 3+ years of experience in IP law preferred.
  • Experience in an enterprise software company is a plus.
  • Advanced financial and Excel spreadsheet skills.
  • Experience with intellectual property including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Patent & Trademark Office procedures and filings is a plus.
