About the position

The New York State Police is seeking an Intelligence Analyst 1 to join the Division of State Police. This position is responsible for producing daily, monthly, and ad-hoc reports focused on current cyber threats to New York State, utilizing the latest security threats described in open-source and official reporting channels. The analyst will monitor open-source accounts related to cyber issues and ensure that the Cyber Analysis Unit (CAU) and New York State Intelligence Center (NYSIC) leadership are informed of relevant developments. The role also involves augmenting federal-level finished intelligence products with analytical judgments relevant to New York, assisting NYSIC staff in the collection and analysis of information, and serving as a subject matter expert in defined critical infrastructure sectors. The analyst will provide oral briefings, attend meetings and trainings, and support responses to network intrusion incidents. This position may require frequent, unscheduled overtime and travel to conferences and trainings nationwide. Candidates must be eligible for a national security clearance at the SECRET level or above.

Responsibilities

  • Produce daily, monthly, and ad-hoc reports on current cyber threats.
  • Monitor open-source accounts related to cyber issues.
  • Augment federal-level finished intelligence products.
  • Assist NYSIC staff in the collection and analysis of information.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in defined critical infrastructure sectors.
  • Provide oral briefings on the current cyber threat environment.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, trainings, and seminars.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four years of Information Systems intelligence analysis, OR
  • Associate's degree and six years of Information Systems intelligence analysis, OR
  • Eight years of relevant experience in intelligence analysis for a governmental entity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications in related areas such as CISSP or Security+.
  • Technical certifications such as MCSA, MCDBA, MCITP, MCP, A+, CCNA, CCNP, Linux+, Oracle OCP DBA.
  • Knowledge of security methodologies, processes, and hardware.
  • Experience in log analysis for network security and computer forensics.
  • Experience in malware analysis.
  • Experience with scripting languages.
  • Experience as a System or Network Administrator.
