About the position

The Intelligence Research Specialist (Cyber Threat Analyst) position at FinCEN involves serving as a subject matter expert in understanding and interpreting technical subjects related to cyber threats and illicit financial activities. The role requires analyzing issues, preparing responses, and guiding investigations related to cybercrimes and the use of emerging payment technologies. The position is critical in assisting FinCEN in drafting rules and regulations under the Bank Secrecy Act and involves collaboration with various divisions and agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and advisor to all FinCEN divisions regarding technical subjects such as cryptocurrency systems.
  • Analyze issues and prepare responses to queries using creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Organize information and analyze cyber threats and illicit use of emerging payment technologies.
  • Guide senior experts and partner agencies by identifying and recommending targets for investigation related to illicit financial activities.

Requirements

  • Must have specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level in the federal service related to cyber threat analysis and illicit financial activities.
  • Experience in identifying and evaluating topics for potential analysis involving cybercrime and emerging payment technologies.
  • Ability to analyze cyber threat intelligence and develop written threat intelligence products.
  • Experience in assessing developments and threats related to cyber-enabled transactions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with anti-money laundering and countering financing of terrorism investigations.
  • Familiarity with blockchain analysis and network defense.
